What is Fat Grafting Breast Augmentation?

In modern cosmetic surgery, it has been recognized that volume loss is a major factor in the loss of a youthful appearance. Fat grafting involves the transfer of fat from one area of the body to another. Fat grafting can be used to improve the face, hands, breasts, or buttocks. This safe, effective procedure produces natural-looking results without incisions. At Surgical Arts of Virginia, Dr. R. Shane Palmer and his team use fat grafting to restore volume in the patient’s desired area.

  • Fat from your own body is used.
  • Dramatic results.
  • Fat transfer results are natural, long-lasting, and safe.
  • Cells associated with fat help to rejuvenate overlying skin.

  • Easy add-on to liposuction procedures

Is Fat Grafting Breast Augmentation Right for Me?

People choose fat grafting of the breasts if they want larger breasts, but do not want implants. If you want rounding of the hips and/or projection to the buttocks, then fat grafting is an excellent choice. Dr. Palmer can help determine if fat grating is your best option during a complimentary consultation.

If you are in good health, do not smoke, and have volume loss of the breasts, butt, face or hands, then fat grafting may be a good choice for you. It is very important that all nicotine products are given up at least two weeks prior to the procedure and for several weeks afterward. If you are diabetic, your sugar should be well controlled and less fat “take” should be expected.

How is Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Performed?

The goal of Dr. Palmer and his staff is to help you achieve the most appealing and natural-looking results, while making your surgical experience as easy and comfortable as possible.

Dr. Palmer performs fat grafting under IV sedation with local anesthesia. Dr. Palmer will harvest fat with a special liposuction cannula from a site predetermined with the patient. This fat will be processed and injected into the targeted area to be re-volumized.  For larger areas like the breasts and buttocks, the fat is processed with decanting before injection.

What is Breast Augmentation Fat Grafting Recovery Like?

After surgery, you will receive instructions regarding your post-surgical care. Most patients take one or two weeks off from work and activities to recover. Patients can expect swelling in the treated areas that resolves within a few days to weeks, depending on the area treated. While you will see visible results several weeks following your procedure, your results will continue to improve over the next few months. Results are often everlasting; however, touch-up procedures are occasionally necessary.
