If you’re considering undergoing breast augmentation, you may already know that you’ll need to carefully consider what type of implants you want, the size of implants that work for you, and the cosmetic surgeon whom can help you achieve these goals.

But have you considered how long you’ll need to recover from breast augmentation?

Most patients will need about 3-7 days of rest before attempting sedentary activities (like working at a desk).  During the first few days after your procedure, you should expect to be in some pain; your cosmetic surgeon will help manage this discomfort with pain medications.  You should also avoid bending over and picking anything up.  This means that if you have a baby or small children, you should arrange for 24/7 care to be in place.  Make sure your partner is ready to handle these extra responsibilities, or ask family members and friends to pitch in whenever possible.

After the first week, you’ll be able to move around and do sedentary work.  Some patients opt to return to their office jobs after seven days; some patients may want to take more time off for recovery.  The recovery process varies based on each individual’s needs.  Additionally, your cosmetic surgeon can help you come up with a recovery plan that works best for your needs.

Within three to four weeks, most patients are able to return to their normal routines, including moderate activity.  Again, your cosmetic surgeon will work with you to determine when you can start engaging in more vigorous activity, like running or working out with weights.
