Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) Fredericksburg

Affordable, customized pricing, financing available.

The perfect arm is often characterized by a toned and muscular appearance. However, as we age or lose considerable amounts of weight, diet and exercise are not always enough to achieve this look. These factors can lead to loose skin that hangs from the arm. An arm lift can help alleviate these issues, creating more aesthetic looking arms and allowing for proper fit of desired clothing.

Board-certified surgeon, R. Shane Palmer, MD is proud to offer arm lifts to residents in the Fredericksburg, VA area.

What is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift is a surgical procedure designed to get rid of excess fat and stop sagging, loose skin on the upper arm, resulting in a firmer, smaller upper arm.

An arm lift, or brachioplasty:

  • Reduces excess skin
  • Tightens and smooths underlying tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm
  • Reduces localized pockets of fat in the upper arm area

Benefits of an Arm Lift

  • Removal of excess skin after significant weight loss
  • More toned appearance
  • Ability to fit into desired clothing
  • Increased confidence
  • Restores arms to a youthful state

Is an Arm Lift Right for Me?

Candidates for arm lift surgery dislike the appearance of their upper arms and find it difficult to wear certain clothing. They should be in overall good health. They must be willing to accept a scar on the inside of their upper arm as a trade off to a smaller, fitter appearance. Some patients may be able to simply have liposuction of the upper arm to obtain the desired appearance, sparing them the scar. Dr. Palmer will help you decide which is best suited for you.

As with any surgery, patients should also have realistic expectations, as discussed with Dr. Palmer prior to surgery.

How is an Arm Lift Performed?

An arm lift is performed as an outpatient procedure, using local anesthesia with IV sedation. Dr. Palmer finds that results are superior and no drain is necessary if liposuction is first used to remove excess fat. The excess skin that remains is then easily excised, without damaging underlying vessels, nerves, or lymphatics. The skin removal involves making an incision along the underside of the arm the length of the upper arm and eliminating the excess skin while pulling the remaining tissue tight. Both the liposuction and the skin removal are performed in the same procedure. The entire process usually takes approximately 4 hours.

Arm Lift Recovery

Patients may experience some minor discomfort and swelling post-procedure. The dressing is left on the incision area for a few days, and typically patients resume most normal activities after a week of downtime. Patients generally see immediate results, such as smaller arm girth and less skin, but full results can be seen over the following months as all the swelling resolves.
